Largest collection of Vanderhorsts art ever assembled
Canadian surreal artist Robert Vanderhorst and Canadian music icon and classical-modernist composer Nash The Slash have joined forces to create a week-long multi-media exhibit, entitled Two Artists.
The Two Artists exhibit, which will take place at the St. Lawrence Hall in Downtown Toronto from April 16 21, will create an environment that collaboratively blends art and music. The event will feature the largest collection of Vandershorsts art ever assembled.
The weeklong exhibit will be free to all visitors, and a gala VIP invite-only opening is scheduled for the evening of April 17.
According to Robert Vanderhorst, The Two Artists exhibit will give art-enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the fusion of surreal art and music unlike anyone has seen in Toronto.
Vanderhorst, who has exhibited across North America, is a past recipient of a Canadian Council Arts Grant and has been producing surreal art for the last 30 years. His most recognized commission, a mural commemorating flight in Canada can be found at Torontos Pearson International Airport in Terminal Three. Other commissions include the United States Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, Canadas National Airport Authority, ABC Television, The Canadian Chiefs of Police Anti-Drug Campaign and numerous private commissions.
I create images in which objects, people and landscapes appear in situations of apparent conflict and yet still impart an odd sense of cohesion and normalcy, said Vanderhorst.
Accompanying the Vanderhorst collection will be the music of Nash The Slash. Slashs music, which includes electric violins, mandolins and synthesizers, will be prominent throughout the exhibit and will include a live performance.
Juno nominee Nash The Slash, who is considered a contemporary rock music pioneer in the Canadian music industry, has been composing and performing music since 1975. He has toured throughout Europe and North America and was recognized in Canada with a U-Know Award (later called CASBY) for best instrumental album.
Nash The Slash has composed film scores for Bruce MacDonalds cult hit films Roadkill and Highway 61.
Additionally, Nash The Slash scored the music to F.W. Murnaus film masterpiece Nosferatu, which he performed live in St. Petersburg, Russia and the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 2002.
I write the music to make things connect, thus enhancing the viewing pleasure of Roberts, work said Nash, The Two Artists exhibit will showcase an incredible diversity of sound and sight all under one roof.
Prior to the opening of Two Artists, several installations of Vanderhorsts paintings will be located throughout Torontos most prominent galleries leading up to the exhibit itself.
Our goal is to raise regional awareness and support about Vanderhorsts paintings and Nashs music, said Executive Producer, Bruce Burgess, who also has been collecting original Vanderhorst paintings for 20 years.
Two Artists is an exciting opportunity for the public and art professionals to experience the unique genius of Robert Vanderhorst and Nash The Slash, said Brett Maraldo, Director of Business Ventures, Two Artists, Inc.
